George Soros Wins Big With Epic Philanthropic Outreach

If you were to begin studying the work of George Soros you would have to spend quite some time to cover it all. George Soros was born and raised in Hungary before he was forced to flee, along with his family, during the Nazi occupation. of his country. Soros and his family would make their way to London and it was there that George would study, eventually coming face-to-face with the concept of the Open Society as written by Karl Popper. Nowadays, Soros is known as a billionaire hedge fund investor who is also an active progressive in the political arena that is the United States. Recently, Soros found his way to the top of the headlines thanks to his activity with his philanthropic outreach, the Open Society Foundations.

The Open Society Foundations was established in 1979 by George Soros in order to attempt to raise grassroots efforts to embark real political and social change on the world. The Open Society Foundations, or OSF for short, works hand-in-hand with grassroots groups in order to give out grants to help fund their efforts. The focus of the OSF is on social justice, freedom of expression, the fight for transparent government and more. Soros and the OSF have spent nearly $14 billion over the past thirty years, fighting to help those afflicted by Apartheid in South Africa and the oppressed Roma people of Europe, just to give a pair of examples. The reason that Soros is making headlines for the OSF is simple but exorbitant all the same: Soros decided to give nearly $18 billion of his personal wealth to the foundation. This donation, which dropped Soros down the World’s Wealthiest List, comes at a time when the United States is galvanized and in need of any help that it can get.

We are, of course, talking about the election of Donald Trump when we mention the nature of a split United States. Donald Trump rose up during the 2016 Presidential Election thanks to his caustic behavior and hate-filled rhetoric that catered to an emboldened base of voters. While many people laughed at Trump for being a fish out of water in politics, Soros quickly assessed how damaging he could be. Now, a year of Trump’s administration in the White House later, we are seeing the real danger of a deranged populist occupying the most important job in the world. This backstory is the reason that Soros was driven to donating his wealth but it is also the reason that he is being attacked for it.

George Soros has been heavily scrutinized his entire career, ever since he came out against George Bush’s long march to Iraq. Soros has turned into a boogeyman for conservatives everywhere and every move that he makes is met with ridicule, derision, and skepticism. There isn’t a right-wing conspiracy in the world that doesn’t involve Soros in some facet. With that being said, Soros is shrugging off his detractors and moving forward in an effort to make a difference.
